i just re-installed windows xp :yipi:
one of the reasons why i redid it is i had way too much poo poo on my pc, so i already downloaded and installed the basics that i need:
k lite codec pack
iTunes
Real Player
Ares
Azureus
WinRAR
AVG antivirus
Xvid4psp
Getting Photoshop cs2 :he:
Getting Illustrator cs2
so i need suggestions for any good programs of the following kind:
a video converter (not 4 psp already have xvid4psp)
a good iso ripper i had magiciso but maybe theres one better?
burning app i had nero, should i just get it again?
an audio editing program, i used goldwave, should i just get it again?
a good video editor
and idk any suggestions of any apps that may come in handy
first of all
get rid of azureus and get utorrent
azureus is known for all sorts of spoon plus it eats away ur memory and CPU power cause it uses the stupid Java platform which is good for nothing. utorrent is the best client by far, easy to use, very simple yet has a chocolateLOAD of features and gives you all the details ull ever need about ur torrents/downloads.
partition magic
adobe reader
adobe flash player
an office suite? OpenOffice.org
paint.net
notepad 2
Firefox 2
SpaceMonger - shows you in the blink of an eye what is taking up ur harddisk space
for burning, definately nero but try to get Nero Basic. it may sound lame compared to nero ultra pro super plus edition, but its stripped down so all it does is burn audio and data and isos. i bet you never use nero for anything else (if you do, just get the normal one from Embrace (7.8.5 i think)
for video converting theres Super+ or something
for video editing theres Adobe Premiere
Audio editing Adobe Audition (=cooleditpro)
pff
Oh you definately need poo poo Cleaner (CCleaner)
and uhh, ill think of more after i finish reinstalling windows myself :P tomorrow or somet
Double postby the way all this stuff and a chocolateload of updates and drivers including more than 100 MS updates AFTER SP2 are included in this mega ultimate XP DVD you can get from TPB or mininova, its by eXperience. it installs unattended and doesn't need activation of course. and you can select which programs to install and it will do it automatically.
cool I'll get on it with the quickness thnks :)
lolbtw if you have any other ideas urslef you can post them for me :P after my pc finished backing up im going to rebuild it with the new motherbaord
You need a crack for it. It's only really good for it's wide format support. Apart from that, use the other programs for anything else.
well ideas from me would be: don't install too many codec packs, that's what killed my system sound and internet sounds, i still had sound in itunes and realplayer, more like advice but eh

a good video editor
DVD Decrypter for making ISO from DVDs
ImgBurn for burning CD and DVD ISOs
Nero WaveEditor works well for me
I have Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing (going to buy a book soon to really learn how to use it)
Also, once you've got a good basic setup, defrag and make a ghost image (or use some other imaging software). This saves me from so many headaches.
thanks i really apreciate the advice guys :)
N/P. UltraISO works well for me too.
I say no to iTunes and QuickTime - they install too much poo poo.
Winamp for music (Winamp is far superior to iTunes). If you need the QT codec, install QuickTime Alternative (which is included in K-Lite Ultimate Codec Pack).
Sound editing - Goldwave and SoundForge - all I ever use (Goldwave is good for DirectShow input)
Video - VirtualDub Mod for general manipulation, Avisynth is really good if you don't mind learning a little scripting (I believe XviD4PSP requires that anyway). MeGUI is THE app used by video/audio conversion experts.
For CD/DVDs:
Nero 6 (7 only has Blu-ray support, but I doubt you have a Blu-ray burner)
Alcohol 120%
Daemon Tools (mounting images)
ISO Buster
UltraISO
DVDDecrypter
DVD Fab Decrypter (works better than DVDDecrypter for some newer DVD protections)
All I can think of right now.
