I turned on my computer. I booted into Windows XP. But when it is about to go to the log-in screen (you don't actually see it) I get the error:

Code:
lsass.exe - Operation Failed
The operation was unsuccessful.

I was able to go on the computer in the morning, but after I got home from school, it stopped working. Anyone know why?
Gongxi

that sounds like a virus...

i would connect the hdd to another computer and replace the exe and check if it works, i know it would with a lot of other files
Quote:Windows errors related to lsass.exe ?

lsass.exe is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: lsass.exe is a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Note: lsass.exe is registered as a downloader. This process usually comes bundled with a virus or spyware and its main role is to do nothing other than download other viruses/spyware to your computer. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Determining whether lsass.exe is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from. Check that lsass.exe is stable on your computer.

sfc /scannow
Boot from your winXP cd and enter the recovery console, once logged into the command prompt type sfc /scannow and wait as it scans your system files for defects and replaces anything it thinks is screwed.
Do you mean do sfc /scannow on run? If you do, I can't access that.
And the computer doesn't have internet, so I highly doubt it's a virus.

It shows the Windows XP loading screen, but then it brings up that error.
By the way, I have a Linux partition I can boot into.

edit: Last time I tried enter recovery I didn't know my admin password. Erk

Do that. Like I said.

sfc /scannow
use the windows xp install disk, that's what ug means

when the welcome screen appears (on the setup), press R to enter recovery

then select the partition and THEN do sfc /scannow
Okay; I am at the point the recovery console where it ask more for the admin password. And I don't know what it is...
try admin, or technical...if its default its quite possibly one of those
default for windows is nothing, just press enter.
