Introduction.
This tutorial will show you how to make an XBOX PC Gamepad and will show you how to use it to Softmod your xbox.
First if you don't have action replay then keep reading you don't need it. If you have action replay well I'm sorry you wasted your money for no reason because I'm going to show you how to do the exact same thing without it, but you definately took the easy way out.
Now before wee get started i do need to warn/inform you about some things.
First. There is a risk of losing a controller but if your smart then you'll be able to fix it easily.
Second. SOFT MODDING CAN POTENTIALLY BREAK YOUR XBOX BUT ISN'T VERY LIKELY.
Third. Once you have completed this successfully you will be able to use your XBOX controller as a PC Game pad and a regular XBOX controller.
Fourth. This is not hard to do there really isn't that big of a risk of breaking your controller if you think you did break your controller you can talk to me and ill step you through the process of fixing it. Or if you have any worries/concerns/questions just ask me.
Now the supplies you will need to make the mod are listed below:
XBOX
XBOX controller
USB 2.0 Cable
Soldering iron/gun (doesn't really matter)
Knife or some kind of prying tool
Scissors and/or pliers or wire strippers (i just use scissors to cut and strip the wires)
Recommended but not necessary supplies:
Some solder
Flux
Good lighting
Glue or some kind of adhesive
Now the supplies you will need to actually soft mod your XBOX:
A computer with windows installed
A modded controller that i will show you how to make in this tutorial
A memory card
The Action Replay drivers from here
Splinter Cell (the first one), Mechassault, or 007 Agent Under Fire cannot be the platinum edition must be an original
The modded game save from here it includes saves for all three games
The PC Game Pad drivers for the XBOX controller here
Now that you have gathered all of the supplies wee can get started on making the controller mod.
First off grab the end of the cord on the controller where you plug it into your XBOX then with your other hand grab the wire about a foot or so down past your other hand and start pulling your hands apart to separate the part on the controller called the dongle from the actual controller.
Now get your knife or prying tool and gently try to separate the plastic that surrounds the part that you plug into your xbox. look at the picture below
that is what you want to get off
Once you got that off you should see something like this:
except yours will have a metal casing covering the wires just pry that off real fast and have a look at the wires inside from left to right theres a red, white, green, yellow, and a black one. Right now before you do anything completely forget about the yellow wire never touch it just leave it alone.
Now go ahead and grab your USB cable. Find the end that you plug into the computer and go down along the wire about 6 or 7 inches (pretty much just as long as the dongle is) and cut the wire now strip about an inch of the wire off. Once stripped you should see a lot of loose wire a red, green, white, and black wire and possibly some foil and string just cut everything except the 4 colored wires off. Now strip those four wires down so that your usb cable looks something like this:
its only that short because i was using a wireless controller to try and do the mod with (it worked).
Now that you have your XBOX controller dongle wires exposed and your USB wires all stripped just solder the corresponding colors to each other so for example red will go on top of red white will go on top of white and so on and don't solder any two pins to themselves and don't forget to leave the yellow wire on the XBOX controller alone. Now once you get it all soldered it should look like this:
Now if you haven't already noticed you not going to be able to fit the plastic case back on the dongle with the usb cable like it is so this is what you are going to have to do with the top half of the plastic case:
to do that get your soldering gun/iron and hold the tip on the edge of the plastic case for a minute or so until you think there is a big enough gap to fit your usb cable through.
Now before you put the dongle back together if you have any glue or adhesive your going to want to put some over the soldered wires so it doesn't get ripped out as easily and to act as insulation just in case. you don't have to do this step but i recommend it. You can put the plastic casing on after you have done this now.
Now your final dongle should look a lot like this one:
Ok. Now the hard part is over now you just sit back and press ok a couple times. First plug the dongle back into your controller then make sure you have downloaded and installed the XBOX Game Pad drivers from here. then plug your xbox controller into your PC you should hear a weird sound then the sound that it makes when you plug a removable disk in or something. and a found new hardware wizard window should pop up.
go through the wizard with these settings:
No, not this time.
Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Don't search. I will choose the driver to install.
Now you should see "XBCD Xbox Gamepad" listed twice use the top one.
Then a new window should pop up just click Continue Anyway
Now another found new hardware wizard window should pop up go through it with the same options as last time but when you get the part where you have to choose the driver to install install the one titled "HID-compliant game controller"
Now your controller will work as a PC gamepad it will also let action replay recognize the memory card when you plug it into the controller, but it won't be able to find it until you install the action replay drivers from here.
Then run action replay with the controller plugged into your PC with the memory card plugged into the controller. Now get the game save from here and drag it over to the left column and unplug your controller from your pc and plug it into your xbox. Open the disc drive on your xbox and make sure the correct game is inside don't close your disc tray just yet you have to copy the save from the memory card to the xbox HD so go to memory and select the memory card then copy it to your hard drive and close the disc drive with the correct game inside. once the game loads up run the Linux game save and well i haven't done this yet so I'm sorry but I'm not going to give information on something i haven't done... but its pretty self explanatory and i will be doing it very soon so don't worry once i do it i will update the tut.
Good Luck and don't forget to +rep!
