A friend of mine recently received an old G4, I think it's a 733 PowerPC chip, kinda old.  He's going to try and download Leopard and install it, but I had a few questions, if anyone here uses a mac, neither of us have ever had a mac before.  Can he just download it and install it, is there an activation crack he needs to find, anything special that needs to be done?  This is being done just to play around with Leopard before he tries to sell it for a friend, though if he likes it, he may wind up buying it himself.
Mac has no copy protection other than the required hardware :) (which wee all know has been obliviated via the osx86 project thanks to apple using intel cpu)

So install, register, enjoy.
Same deal with leopard.
Though, Leopard might nog like a G4. Haven't paid attention to the system requirements myself... *takes a look*

Quote:General requirements

Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor

OC it.
Like stated "867MHz+" 9GB HDD space, and 512 RAM. It will run, but like total poo poo. Like XP will run on a 300MHz CPU with 128MB, but..... :/

The only thing you need to do is not be online when installing, well after, because OS X+ forces you to register. 'bogus, bogus, bogus, info" < Ed. Then login, goto your HDD root find the send info link and remove it along with the file it's linked too (apple+i for find the path).
XP runs on my 400mhz, 198MB ram computer just fine.
Thanks guys, gonna give it a shot this weekend.  Yeah, the cpu is gonna be slow, but meh, gonna be trying out that "build a Mac" thing later on.
