Stop talking like a special case, you don't just add up the speed. A single core chip at 4Ghz with the same instruction set would piss all over it.
But they are right the x2 3600+ is an ok chip and can clock quite nicely with a good heatsink.

When you get time, switch to an LGA775 socket mobo.
Depends how much multi-threaded processing you'd do.
The 4000+ will easily beat the 3600+ in terms of single thread processing.
