i found a very easy solution that just took a little bit of thought...  ive been renaming vob files to mpg and playing them since forever.. so i decided to make the file i wanted encoded as an mp4 with xvid4psp... then i just renamed to avi and it works no problems.. seeing as file extention with video doesn't mean that much i should have known... what matters more it the container for the muxed audio and video and the codec used to encoded them with..  anyways thanks for trying to help me guys

Actually, the extension refers to the container.

Renaming a VOB file to an AVI is incorrect, however, DirectShow tries to detect the real file format through reading the data, rather than relying on the filename.  Of course, this may be different depending on what player you use.

Really though, sending a VOB straight though should have no problems.
