wee need specs as soon as possible as wee are going later.
10k RPM for your system HD 60gb?... and a 320gb for your stuff :D
Motherboard: Anything that supports LGA 775 CPU Socket and has at least 1 PCI-E x16 Slot.
CPU: Core 2 Quad is the way to go for gaming.
RAM: DDR2 3GB RAM, buy in 1GB sticks.
Graphics CARD: what diego said, or the 8800 Ultra (best)
Sound: Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatality.
Case: get a transparent one, black is sexy.
Cooling: If you are not interested in OCing, just get a fan. :P
HD: A 320GB Sata 7200RPM will do good
Optical Drive: A DVDRW/CDRW combo drive
OS: Either XP Professional, or Vista Home Premium. Your choice.

why? wouldn't it be better to take advantage of dual channel?

DDR2, obviously. And Getting 4GBs of RAM is pointless, your PC will only see 3.

Well, if he's gonna get a 32bit OS, it'll only see 3gigs. And it's pointless to get 4, no difference in speed whatsoever.
