Spoiler:
Kwari is a planned first-person shooter multiplayer online game, the first game of its kind with participants competing against each other for money. Produced by Eddi Gill's company Kwari Limited of London and Leeds, it was announced in August 2007 to be available by the end of the year.[1][2]

Players fund their accounts up front, buy "ammunition" from Kwari Limited, and are matched against other players of similar strength in groups of 16 to 64. A player who is hit pays to the hitter an amount that was arranged in advance (between 1 eurocent and 1 euro). Players can also earn money by collecting and holding various objects; "The Pill" is the most lucrative one and renders its holder visible to other players through walls. Players pay into a jackpot to be paid out regularly to the pill holder. Strict anonymity of the participants is ensured to avoid the possibility of real-world retaliation.[1] Beta-testing started in August 2007. The servers will initially allow 5000 players to play simultaneously.

Company officials were quoted as saying "money changes everything" and "once played at a professional level or where money is involved, it’s unappealing to return to an amateur status"

Quote:On the surface Kwari is a superior rapid-action first person shooter with all the sci-fi setting weapons and trappings you’d ever need. However there is a whole lot more going on.

Kwari has been designed with a singular purpose in mind – to give you the opportunity to translate your shooter skills into some serious cash. Everything about the game has been tailored to that effect, so much so that even an average player should be able to get ahead in the game quickly.

Every time you hit another player in Kwari you make money. Every time you are hit by another player it costs you. Every shot counts. How much is down to the stake level you play in. But this is not the only way to win.

Doing damage to yourself, breaking crates, use of certain map features or picking up additional weapons, pickups and health packs may have a fractional cost attached. This cost is transferred between a series of jackpots, prizes and awards available in the game, all of which can be won by any player, regardless of the skill or stake level of game they prefer to play.

At no point, however does Kwari take any of this money. 100% of the cash generated through playing the game goes back to the players in the form of prizes.

The most frequent of these prizes is the Pill Jackpot, which is split between the player who carries the Pill the longest, and the player who finishes the round with the Pill.

Other jackpots in the game are won by collecting Kwari keys which spawn regularly in the game until the prize has been won. Depending on the length of the key series required to win, different jackpots will pay out over different periods, ranging from one hour to six months, and once a jackpot has been won all the key chains for that prize start again. Kwari keys can be found inside various crates scattered throughout the game, but that’s not all they contain. Crates can carry pickups, weapons or even cash prizes as well as jackpot keys.

In addition, as you become more experienced at Kwari you will receive tasks to complete in the game which will earn you a cash bonus. These tasks can be completed in a single round or over many evening’s worth of play – they stay with you until they are completed and are specific to individual players.

Kwari offers a significant number of ways for players to win, which means there are a wide range of tactics available to get ahead.

Maybe you’re a highly skilled shooter gamer who prefers to make money from other players by excessive use of the rocket launcher. Perhaps you prefer a more stealthy approach, and make your winnings from picking off crates and taking their contents when nobody is watching. You might rather get the adrenaline rush of being the Pill carrier. All these tactics work well, and undoubtedly you will find the right method to make a killing in Kwari.

At no point does the house take any of this cash – if you win it, it’s yours. You can get your winnings back to your real bank balance easily and quickly.

The game is free to download, you’ll need ammunition and this is the only place Kwari charges for anything. Wee supply you with ammo (which works in all weapons) for a fixed cost. Depending on your style of play the amount of ammo you need will vary.
They have been working on this for a while now. It's a good concept but unfortunately the guys behind this one don't seem able to put all the elements together.

I'd like to see a good FPS with this model take off as it would automatically eliminate all the idiots.
I think it's kind of a rip-off. I mean, if you're like me and you need a bit of a learning period with a new game, you're going to fail. Hard. Also, that failing will bring about loss of money.
yes, for people who are not able to pick up a game and dive right in it could be difficult but this type of game is built around the pro-am gamers circuit.

It's not built for just anybody to pick up and play and that's a good thing.
i agree, it would weed out all the newbies. But, like metalgear08 said, a bit of a learning period takes place when people play a new game.
so lemme make sure i got this right.....they charge you REAL money for the ammo??

double you tee eff.... :slap:
just registered, now waiting for the E-MAIL

double you tee eff! i was thinking the same thing. ..
my advice on this is if your gonna play it then start when it comes out so the playing field is more level... cause believe me people will play foe hours and hours if its any good.. the potential monetary gain (assuming its all legit) will cause people to try and make alot off it.. its gonna be camp city with ammo costing real money so everyone will be a sniper so they don't waste alot as a machine gun would shoot alot more bullets and cost more... though a sniper rifle should cost alot and so should ammo for it...    i tend to stay away from stuff like this.. don't like to keep paying to play a game...
I wouldn't recomend THIS game to anyone, it's far to buggy and the count system has never been right. But there are some others in development using this model and I'm all for it.

And to the people who think it's a rip-off, it is. If your shit.
