Endless Paradigm

Despite the lack of PSP-related activities and updates at this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2007, Sony is making sure to let everyone know that they are not neglecting their own handheld console.

PSP updates - hardware versus software. Though the possibility of any hardware update is still mostly vague, Sony's product manager John Koller promises that the evolution of the PSP will be done through its software, since it has, afterall, gone through 13 firmware updates since it was first released in 2005.

Sony: eye on homebrew community. Asked whether the PSP will ever have features which were first made available via homebrew, Koller admits that yes, Sony has been keeping an eye on what the homebrew community has been up to: "Future firmware revisions may incorporate some of the additions that custom firmware users have been able to enjoy."

In fact, Koller even points out that "RSS is actually from homebrew."

On the other hand though, the chances of getting other much-awaited functions such as full resolution AVC support and a PSP movie download service still remain bleak, and no new developments for these features have been mentioned.

I think this is just a ploy.  Either that or Sony's running out of (good) ideas.  I believe their whole aim was to make the PSP not very useful by itself, though they do need to give some incentives in firmware updates, I guess.

If anything, I reckon nothing great will be added in future Sony firmwares anyway.

idk sony might just loosen up seeing as how they suck at firmwares

Well they did say that Home (that thingy for ps3) would be coming out on psp as well, i think that would be cool.

they gonna try to copy homebrew and put it in firmware updates

Yeah, but I think they intended the PS3 to be more open, and the PSP to be closed.
I think that's because non-portable consoles have a lot more value if they're like a computer - just look at the success of the modded Xbox.
Portable consoles, on the other hand don't enjoy homebrew as much...  or should I say, the PSP is the only console actually good at homebrew.

Dunno though - I'm just guessing.  It would be nice to see homebrew on the PSP, however, I'm somewhat doubting that.

I do not think sony will ever allow homebrew, and if they do i bet they will have to pick what homebrew can and can't be played, and wee all here know that they will stop iso's from being played and just with that being said alone you know nobody's going to update just for that...
