Linux Ubuntu (Pronounced Oo-Boon-Too) Has been released, and you can download it legaly, mostly cause its free, but, you may be thinking, i love my Windows too much for linux, well, when you start up, it acts as a dual boot, AKA. keep yor windows, also, this download is only for windows ;)

If you are interested, install linux, but please look at the instructions (next post) and you may want to fix the default computer boot ;)

Enjoy :D

More Instructions Coming Soon...

Default Boot Fix:
There is a file called /boot/grub/menu.lst which has the grub boot menu, just change the default boot number, or paste the windows entry above the linux one.
Doesn't the installer let you configure the boot menu?

Never really got used to Grub (well, only looked at it for about 30 seconds).  Mainly familiar with Lilo.
Ubuntu is awesome if you want to start learning Linux.
There are lots of bootable "Live CD" distros out there. They run off the disk and RAM.

um, no, the linux will automaticly place itself over the original operating system, you need to change it manually if you want the windows as the default, did i mention you can play games during the install :D

All the Linux distros I've tested add the Windows loader into the boot menu...

{nano /etc/lilo.conf} for the w00t!

@boom
Are you gonna stick with Gnome?
I have a sneaky suspicion you'll like Kubuntu, (KDE desktop manager pre-installed), better...

edit:

Ubuntu 5.04 did.
IM CONFUSED!!!
ill look into kubuntu, thanks ;)
I have Ubuntu 6.10 and Windows XP on my computer.

I haven't had any dual boot issues.

I like using Ubuntu/Linux because I can customize the GUI so easily and it boots much faster than Windows.
that's right :yipi:
that's why im using it :diablo:
After you guys get Ubuntu figured out I recommend Debian.
Ubuntu is based on it. It just has a bunch of poo poo pre-installed. The true joy of Linux is building it yourself, containing only the code/programs you use and making it into the OS you've always wanted.

I use Slackware, with the Fluxbox window manager.
I'd post a screenshot but the desktop is blank. Everything is accesed via macros or context menu...
