Although I saw this a few hours ago on QJ, I only just managed to try it.

I haven't really been following the development of cooleyes' PMPlayer AdVanCe, but, hearing his finds in hardware accelerated decoding of audio streams (and soon, it appears that he'll probably discover hardware decoding DivX/XviD video streams) I was hoping that he integrated hardware audio decoding into his PPA.

As I thought, he did, meaning that a PMP containing AVC video stream and MP3 audio stream can now be played back at 66MHz without lag :) (I would presume AAC would work the same)
(the only thing I need now is a screen brightness module to allow the 5th darkness level, then it'll truly rock :p)

For anyone interested, the download link can be found here (11.14 MB)

This is run in the 3.xx kernel.  To change the skin to English, the only way I've found to do this is edit the file config.xml - make sure the skin line reads like follows:

Code:
<skin current="normal-en" />

nice
already got it. but still, nice app this, especially 3.xx kernel
so how is it better than mp4 avc
interesting. i have seen a program that can play DIVX files. but it takes a while to really start the video.
wonder if this is the same fact on this.
no i don think this take time
zb says it runs smoothly on 66 mhz?
this one pre-loads  the video it not gonna lag or something. it has no problem playing mp3s
doesn't play DivX...plays PMP files, amazing quality and good file size

PMP-AVC isn't.  It's an inferior container format.  However, PMP is much easier to synch than MP4, which is why it requires much less computational power to decode.
PMP-Mod has always been a much better player than the XMB one if you ask me.

And at 66MHz, it consumes MUCH less battery than the XMB's player running at 222MHz.

It plays DivX/XviD video streams muxed into the PMP container.
In fact, it's the only homebrew player which supports resolutions up to 720x576 for DivX/XviD video (it'll lag though).

DivX is a video codec, not a file format (though there was a "DivX container", but no-one really ever used it).
DivX/XviD support has been around a long time.  The PSP's firmware plays DivX/XviD encoded in Simple Profile, muxed into the MP4 container since FW1.00.  PMP-Mod also supports DivX/XviD, but they must be muxed into the PMP container.

What most people want, is DivX/XviD playback inside the AVI container.  I highly doubt that'll ever occur.
Remuxing only takes a few minutes at the very most anyway.  If cooleyes implements hardware decoding, IDK, but PMP-Mod runs at 333MHz clock - this may go down, and will probably allow content larger than 480x272 to play without lag.
Nice.
