Wah, that is wacky. I always thought all Linux installers didnt write anything until you tell it to, so unless you did something to try and mount the drive then it might be a bug.
I was surprised too when I first booted ubuntu and it turned out to be a live cd, I was glad it was though cause the screen was fudgeed up (on my POS ati card) so i didnt install it and booted back to windows (im give up on linux so easily, lol)
