They should just finish the original codebase of longhorn, it had the potential, speed and all round awesomeness (well, except for the sidebar, I fudgeing hate that). Only problem is that the original main longhorn team, with the exception of one or two devlopers all work for Google now.
too bad for ms they r fudgeing dumb i remember the hype of vista during the beta period but on realease it all falls apart

yeah hopefully.. i want my sound back =/
don't expect too much, anyone remember xp sp1? wasn't that special.

longhorn.tk, was like AAAGES ago, and even that was better than vista is now.
maybe MS learned from what they did with SP1 and 2 for XP , and trying to make SP1 for Vista as stable as XP-SP2
ye right

Other reasons they claim: "More optimized for dual core" and "More stable".
Fact is, absolutely no test has shown Vista running faster than XP on any setup (some people will continue to blame "lack of certified drivers" (if you ask me, WHQL certification is just Microsoft's ploy to shift blame onto hardware vendors) not being available).
As for stability, it's generally considered that Windows Server 2003 and XP x64 are FAR more stable than Vista, so again, they're really uneducated :P

Lol.
Though I didn't know what happened to the codebase.  But the sidebar can be ripped out anyway :P
Early alpha releases of Longhorn, well, according to reviews didn't seem to be that great.  Never tried myself though, so I dunno.
So i read the whole topic,.. i want to know "is 64bit vista faster then 32bit xp!?"
And if i am correct 64bit xp would be faster then 64bit vista,.!?
i am planning to install 64bit because i have had a beta 64bit xp and that was woot woot fast!!
V1, all versions of Vista be slower than any other version of Windows. There be's no 'fast' version of Vista, for the modern hardware the speediest version of windows is XP Pro x64. arr.
well vista seems to manage memory very badly
