You'd think that since they are removing the Emotion chip from the new ones to do the backwards compatibility through software that they might change that. But knowing Sony I highly doubt it.
I believe the emotion engine is still being produced in US and Japanese PS3s though.
It won't be in the 80GB versions, and once those go on sale the 60GB version will no longer be manufactured.

I called sony yesterday and im getting a replacement ps3, all i know is that it better still have the emotion engine ;)
I have a 80BG American Model, I wish there was homebrew on it though.:(
by the way (that same day my friend bought a 360 and it was a rrod brick, lol and it had no guarantee )
1) too expensive -» ~SGD$800 in my country.
2) don't have a HD TV (wee know that ps3 games look the best with HD TV)
3) can't play back-ups yet.

yeah they just didnt put it in the 40gig european 1! :(
