I'm also haveing a problem with my computer, it's not to the extreme that michaelp had, but none the less frustrating, my volume won't go up as loud as it should,I'm running windows xp pro, would anyone happen to know how to fix this??
Open Volume control panel and turn up whatever is down too low
it has volume, but not like before,and i have and still nothing, the bass and treble is grayed out for some reason, could it be the soundcard??, if not for the system restore, my computer would be nothing but trash.I'm running windows xp pro, 512mb, 80gb harddrive.not as fast as a mac, but other than the volume not working right does great
Possible things:
- Drivers
- Some sound filtering system you may have
- Speakers just don't go loud
- Connections (make sure stuff plugged in properly)
try using headphones or earphones and see if the sound is louder. otherwise try zinga's suggestions in order because i have a feeling it is the software that's the problem.
i tried it with small ear buds,it is louder, but i think it's because of there size and i don't think it is the player, i have three different ones, windows media player, dvd x player and winamp and they are all the same loudness, the pc i have now isn't the one i had before, some of the internal componets are the same,but the tower is different, the tower i had before was an hp, this one i have, i never heard of before, on the fronts it reads LAB1, so the soundcard my not be the one i had before, on my other pc, it had excellent volume, this one is ok, but it should be louder than what it is, when i had the hp, the sound was as good if not better than my stereo and i have a good stereo, a panasonic, and it has great sound and everything is pluged in as it should be and connected the way it should be
Open control panel
Then open Sounds,Speech and Audio Devices
Then open Sounds and Audio Devices
Then check all your settings in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties
if its the onboard soundcard that your using then those are always quieter and worse quality than seperate cards.
i did what you said and it's still not doing that great, but it's better than nothing, thanks for everyone's help
now I'm having another problem, when i boot my computer up,instead of going straight to windows xp boot screen, it shows a screen with what looks like the name of the ram or something like that, how would i get it back to booting straight to the windows boot screen??thanks
