I'd say that more depends on how open minded and/or tolerant you are.
But yeah, if you can't take certain personalities, then it won't work for you.  Kinda like how I can't stand watching index.

Assassinator Wrote: [ -> ]if you think she's a giant stuck up bitch and cannot sympathise with her at all, it doesn't work.
I think she is that, but, depends on whether you can find interest in other aspects.

Assassinator Wrote: [ -> ]What's so good about Kuroneko?
Amusing character.  Actually similar to Kirino but where Kirino feels like she owns the place (perhaps influenced by her "idol" status), Kuroneko is more good natured.  Also, she happens to be the older sister in this case, and she seems to be somewhat more astute than what she may initially seem.

eKusoshisut0 Wrote: [ -> ]Oh wait! Nevermind, I take that back. It's that girl, the childhood friend with the glasses.
She wasn't bad.  Actually, everyone except Kirino wasn't bad.  I guess Kanako has a 'brat' feel about her but she doesn't appear that much.

Touma annoys me like hell too, you're not the only one, in fact I would say you're in the majority.  Not as bad as Kirino though, Kirino fucking cannot be redeemed.
Touma is bad but it's not like I stopped watching any shows because of a personality of a character I couldn't stand.

I dunno.  Touma is basically a "I don't give a spoon what you say, I'm doing what my nonsensical mind believes is right" person.
Kirino is arrogant, and seems to be primarily mean to her brother only (she's quite into appearances to others so perhaps she's just acting naturally to her brother).  She gets most aggressive when she's uncertain though, and she does come back to reality every now and then.  Nonetheless, it's not quite certain why she doesn't really like her brother.

Touma is illogical, not very smart, acts 100% on emotion, infected with a serious case of white knight disease.  But on the plus side, at least he's brave enough to tackle problems head on, strong enough to keep going when shit gets hard, and is not a wimp.

Kirino is pretentious, weak (runs away from problems and has to have her brother solve them for her), ungrateful, a stuck up princess with a totally obnoxious personality and almost no redeeming features.

You consider that a plus?  Trying to "keep going" seems to be mostly an extension of his stupidity.  Sometimes you just have to admit defeat - not doing so is just arrogant.  Others exist to be relied upon - it's somewhat the basis for society.

I wouldn't say ungrateful.  She's actually quite grateful to the help her brother gives, just that her pretentious nature causes her to struggle to demonstrate it.

A plus multiplied by a minus just became a bigger minus I guess.

Ok, it's debatable, of you take it too far it's stubbornness and that's not a good thing (in this case it's probably that).  But a lot of people, whenever stuff gets hard, just breaks down or gives up, and that scores very badly in my books (like Kirino, ok you had a fight with your friend, well bitch go fucking make up with her, that's your task not your brother's task, and when he does help you, thank him and shit, not act like a giant bitch).

It really depend on the person anyway.  I...
- heavily value traits like intelligence and rationality, mental strength (being able endure hardships and make sacrifices to get shit done when needed), ability (as in performance, not shooting fireballs), achievements, a confident and proactive personality.
- don't particularly care about traits like morals, being a good person, outward appearance and fashion, sense of humor
- heavily dislike traits like mental weakness (easily give up, easily swayed by others, easily swayed by emotions, etc), stupidity, people who do illogical things, not learning from mistakes, totally obnoxious personalities like Kirino.
I don't like either Touma or Kirino.

This (fairly normal) person might
- heavily value traits like compassion, good ethics, being a good natured  and down-to-earth person, sense of justice
- don't particularly care about traits like intelligence
- and heavily dislike traits like dishonesty, having questionable morals, ruthlessness
This person probably wouldn't mind Touma.

Another person might
- heavily value traits like "omg kawaii", imouto, tsuntsun
- don't particularly care about traits like... everything else
This (very shallow) person would love Kirino.

I can at least understand people who like Touma, but I really find it hard to understand why anyone likes Kirino at all.

Sounds like you're into the very 'shounen protagonist' type person, where they do stupid things because they believe they can do it.
I personally think that determination and risk taking is definitely a positive, but a healthy amount of critical judgement and restraint should also exist.  I don't particularly like extremes on either end - that is whimps who give up or thoughtless idiots.
By the way, I don't particularly consider someone who's dependent on others to be a whimp - it's just really one way of solving problems - different people may prefer different methods, but if it works, then good for them.

Assassinator Wrote: [ -> ]like Kirino, ok you had a fight with your friend, well bitch go fucking make up with her, that's your task not your brother's task, and when he does help you, thank him and shit, not act like a giant bitch
She actually does actively make up with Ayase herself, and actually does thank him - not exactly in a direct manner though.
Do remember that she's actually been handling the whole thing by herself for quite a long time.  Being both a (presumably) outgoing figure and managing a solitary hobby isn't the easiest thing.  It's only when her brother finds out that she starts worrying and decides to rely on him.

I think you over-generalise a bit.  I don't particularly like Kirino, but I don't think she's anywhere near as bad as you put it.

I'm interested in exactly how you derived that result from what I wrote...  Anyway, I generally hate shounen protag type of people.  They're generally way too goodie 2 shoes with that stupid sense of justice Touma has, act irrationally based on emotion, pick fights they usually can't win (and only win because of plot devices), aren't very smart, etc.

Oh yeah Zinga, it seems I can no longer ftp into your server, I was trying to upload some pictures and found that it no longer works.

Anyway I have an appointment at a restaurant with some guy, will write more when I come back.

I'd say their main overruling factor is their determination.  Intelligence seems to be irrelevant, but I guess you're right about the emotion part - forgot about that.

Aw, so it isn't a date.
