I do think there is some connection, but I also think that even for the most random event, the mind can come up with at least that much (it'll be extremely difficult to think up a random situation so random that you simply cannot find any connection at all).

Once upon a time, there was a troll that had rotten teeth and couldn't talk properly. He was retarded with red and pink poker-dot feet, white legs with a black face and body. He lived under the wooden house that no-one lived in.
One day, he went out on a walk and he tripped over 1000 rocks on the way.
It was a sunny day. The princess, who was watching her mother drone on in front of a large crowd, felt giddy in the blazing heat.
"Why do I have to be here?" she questioned herself.

wait what?
are you trying to example story connections in Air... or Kanon?
(naturally I think its Air, since that really did have the "you're not gonna know why you saw that bit" part....... :/)
Kanon left you composed, Air did not. I can't put it simpler.

Real example from a real anime please.
That's just trying to make it unconnected on purpose.

Was just trying to put doubt on the following:

Of course, you could pick two completely different unconnected parts of a story too, but I really can't be bothered doing that.

Again, that's just trying on purpose to make it disconnected. With good intentions in mind (animators want the best for their anime of course), it would be nearly impossible.

Of course story writers know what they're doing. With that in mind, wouldn't you say that these vague connections are deliberately put in rather them just trying to make a disconnected story?

No, they're just out of ideas. Or the VN » anime transition wasn't done perfectly, that is, some crucial info has been lost in transition.

hmm... really? that seems somewhat hard to accept.

That's a pretty big claim to make, especially since they evidently justified the cost to actually make the anime, the fact that these guys' job is to do this kind of stuff, and you probably aren't exactly an expert in the field...
Yes, possible they made a misjudgement on what they expected watchers to understand, but I highly doubt that they did it by accident.
