Hawken (Offical site) is a (soon to be) Free-to-play (with micro transactions) Mech FPS that has just landed on Steam.
It is developer by a company called Adhesive Games, and uses the Unreal 3 engine. It's very heavily support by Nvidia, so if you have a Nvidia card then this game is going to run very well and has been optimized to get the most out of whatever Nvidia card you might have.
For example I have a Nvidia 540m in my Laptop, which is an extremely average card at this point in time. Yet the game runs incredibly smoothly while still looking pretty decent on medium everything.
Currently it is early access, meaning they want to try get some money out you before it goes completely Free-to-play like it once was. There is currently 2 bundles available to buy on Steam that give you early access to the game:
HAWKEN - Nemesis Bundle
HAWKEN - Prosk Starter Bundle
The Nemesis Bundle is $30 (35 NZD) and the newly added Prosk Starter Bundle is $10 ($12 NZD).
Due to the games micro transactions model, you have to pay to purchase addition Mechs, weapons, items, and aesthetic related gear. These bundles will save you money in the long run if you want to get a bunch of Mechs and weapons now. I believe the stock stand Free-to-play game itself only gives you 1-2 Mechs. However these bundles include a wide varity of the Mechs, including weapons and credits to spend in-game.
I am looking for people to play with! If any of your Epeeps here have Steam and the funds, please get it and add me so wee can play!
I myself just purchased the Prosk Starter Bundle, which gives you access to 3 addition Mechs to start with:
- Vanguard - Close range tank Mech with high defense
- Infiltrator - Close to medium range stealth Mech
- Sharpshooter - Long to medium range sniper Mech
I am loving the Vanguard and Sharpshooter so far, so here is some screenshots of my beauties:
