Not gonna make this long, and it's sort of relevant because I remember discussing this with assassinator about the tedious beginning.
I'm talking about the Muv-Luv (core) series
Anyway, I just finished this VN and DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmn was it good. This VN was a workhorse in terms of emotion, it wasn't well written (there's a lot of parts where they've already said the same thing 100000+ times) but it had so much emotion going for it that the whole impact of what the story was trying to convey could be felt just fine. This is also a translated work, so you can also blame that.
Also the engrish, I couldn't take anything seriously at the beginning of alternative, it was comedy gold.
It's also really interesting that whenever I play a game or do something "unproductive", I always get a huge backswing of guilt that I'm blowing time for no reason. This wasn't the case with muv, I was totally willing to throw away days just playing this, it was so worth too.
I need to play more VN's... (then again I shouldn't get my hopes up given that muv-luv is DABESTVNEVER)
Also am I the only one that liked extra? I mean the ending had its amount of feels and it was entertaining enough to care about the cast.
Oh yeah, America sucks, Grorious Nippon Imperialism, filthy gaijin go home.

Spoiler for SPOIRERS AHEAD:
Meiya is best girl. Seriously though, her character, makes you think she was going to fill the role waifu with a sword but then she develops into a bro-tier character in the end. She wasn't always doing the right thing, sometimes she'd piss you off and other times you'd be rooting for her. I didn't feel like she was single-tracked all the time and that's why I just love her. That friend-zoning too, I've just never seen it that bad. I still can't see why Sumika is the canon love interest, I guess she's pretty goofy/cute but I could never take her that seriously. I guess one of the reasons is that wee don't ever get that much time to spend with her and she never tries to give you an insight into her character.
