Perhaps realising that 3D was over-hyped by the industry, Nintendo are releasing a cut down version of the 3DS, named the 2DS. Differences primarily being:
- doesn't have the 3D feature of the 3DS (ie the 3D slider turned all the way down)
- abandons the clamshell design
The 2DS plays all the same games that the 3DS does.
Available in NA on October 12 (same release date as Pokemon X/Y) for $130. EU/AU release date is also the same, just slightly different prices.

wait wait what, I saw something about this earlier and thought it was a joke.
Well then!
I guess it's a decent alternative to those who don't use the 3D slider. I don't use it but there's also the fact that this 2DS will be cheaper. Not too crazy about that design though. Button/D-pad placement look weird but thetn again I'm used to having them further south next to the lower screen.
apparently this one despite its design is sturdy as fudge like the original DS
although why no clamshell design? are they trying to make the thing not as mobile?
$130...If that was too high for people to buy the 3DS, why would they buy this?

The 3DS was $250 at launch.

I mean its current discounted price. They must not be selling very well for Nintendo to release this, right?
it actually looks pretty good although i do prefer the flip design. i find 3D to be a bit pointless anyway to be honest unless you want to give yourself constant headaches. now then if nintendo can release majora's mask for the 2/3DS along with a special edition 2/3DS i will definitely be throwing my money their way

Cheaper to produce = cheaper price
They just had an opportunity to redesign it....
.... and still no second analog stick.
