For some reason i just like doing these... although cable management is a pain still. (maybe more so for the upcoming build)

anyways heres what i plan on using for the TV based build (STC) (instead of painfully typing it out) and once again all pricing and such was taken from http://www.memoryexpress.com/

(Updated July 17th)
+already have a 550w power supply (WHICH IS BROKEN) i need that 600w+

although i wanted to go with a SSD for a boot device this time they had nothing lower than 120gb which is still kind of expensive (with the 3TB drive as the main storage for both OSes)\

also i want to plant a Graphics card in there but i wasn't sure on how much money i have at the moment so it might get added in later

Planned Operation: TV use / Gaming Capture / Linux / Steam / Replacing my somewhat dying laptop
OS: Linux / Windows 7 (64bit, Wait is a waste)

plus the Capture device is working like i wanted it to:

this is the case before i messed with anything. showing you mostly how clean it is inside before i go and add stuff to it

the 550w power supply which is dead weight in this system (suggested use in last build but good thing it was rejected)

the completed setup. with messy cabling.

where the system is now lying. the outside cables need cleaning as well since i don't need the ones on the far left at the moment
damn syfe .. how many rigs do you need :p

idk about gaming capture .. but for everything else .. the iGPU should do :D

maybe get a 2x2gb kit and a 400watt PSU instead then put the money on an SSD or a 7200 RPM drive

i wouldnt recommend running an OS in that WDC green (though you could.. :p)

edit: by the way, the case you picked is bundled with a 300w PSU (idk if its good enough though :p)
i need to replace my laptop as its going screwy abit and abit damage

i like the extra power? although if its not needed then i might not spend the extra for the 600w

i will check with my funds anyways before this.

This build doesn't have a graphics card, 300w is plenty.

HD video adapter really this expensive?
Apparently?

it is way better than the one i am currently using also about the same price point as the last one.
Do you really need that capture card?
I thought you could just get any cheapo TV tuner, plug your console (that's what I'm assuming you're doing) in and encode video using capture software.
yes. but i wish to upgrade it with the new system.
never built a pc so i don't know too much on that side but looks cool anyway. i was planning on building a pc before but i think I'm swayed more towards the power mac side atm as i use logic pro to record and i do really like my macbook (just want something with more grunt to be honest).
Yeah. Although its not that hard to do.

Apparently I have enough to get a graphics card if I wanted and a ssd. Although I don't think I would ever need  one higher than 64gb

Although not sure if I can use both the graphics card and the capture device

Shouldn't be an issue at all.

I don't know exactly what that capture device does above a basic TV tuner.  From what I skimmed over, it seems that it's just a hardware H.264 encoder or something like that, and probably a bunch of the cost goes into the (typically crappy) bundled software.
Capture devices appear as video inputs (video card is an output).
