Ash wasn't the main character in Gold or Silver. He's found in Mt. Silver with the name Red. The main character's name was either Gold or Silver depending on the game. Same for your rival in those games.

I dunno. If you want to stick to accuracy, sure. Otherwise it doesn't really matter.
