Ugh... My internet was down last week, but only for 5 hours, thank goodness. My ISP was undergoing maintenance at the time :/

my router usually takes a poo poo and dies, just won't let anyone connect, then has to be rebooted. then again it is a 5+ year old netgear ADSL router

Yeah I know and that's exactly what I feared... plus I'm not too happy about having a static IP then because I already had cases where I was IP blocked on forums I never even visited before though a router reset to a new IP always helped o.o

If they blocked a range, well a dynamic IP probably won't help you.
I've found that IP blocking to be inaffective most of the time, so whoever did the ban is probably a rookie. But you can always use Tor to mask your IP.

Whoa Zinga... you just showed me a glaring flaw in my logic... if only I have the IP nobody else can mess with it... oh god was I dumb

Oh well I still wouldn't feel too great about having a static IP for whenever I use _that_ EP thing in the forum nobody knows >.> I mean I know my ISP knows either way but a static IP feels so "IT'S YOU!!!" ^.^;;
