Apparently the upcoming H.265 video standard doesn't completely drop interlacing support: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEVC#Interlaced_support
So my bet is that it's still going to be here for a while...

Anything more solid on the PS4/Xbox720, especially release dates?
I don't even see the point in 2160p TV

I do, for larger displays.

If you can notice the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 24" monitor, just think how stretched it must be on a 47"+ TV
Man, I still have a 26 inch CRT...

But how far away are you from that TV?

In my case, my 47" TV acts as a 4th monitor. So between 4-9 feet.

But really, until you see it, who knows how big a difference it is. It's like comparing DVD to BluRay. If you haven't seen BluRay, you don't know there is a difference.
Gimme OLED and QHD. Better resolutions with actually decent black levels. That'll seem like a massive jump forward.

Though, OLED seems to be a bit of a pipe dream atm.
The black magic company (who sells a lot of broadcasting equipment) is actually pushing out their 4K cards and everything right about now so I assume the TV world is slowly moving up...

How accurate is that though? I have a 40" in my living room and sitting on my couch 12-15 feet away you can tell instantly when it's running in 480 vs 1080 the second you walk in the room.
