angry birds isn't garbage, it's everything it is supposed to be, and ever has dreamed of being. the fact it's so simple means everyone can get into it, and that's why it's so big. Just because it's for casual gaming does not make it 'garbage'.
Even the most hardcore gamers like the play games on the go (i.e. casually), so i don't see the harm in AB.

And wee all know what clique of person not liking something just because it's popular makes you~

I think it shares the same hate as the call of duty variants, such that simple games make a lot of money and thus stagnate creativity in the market.

I mean, that's what people who have cliques fear anyway, that developers will just appeal to the biggest one such that they make the most $$. Then wee get no variety and a bunch of the same boring stuff.

From a personal standpoint, I'm already feeling the sting. Maybe it's because I've just become desensitized to games and what not, but the only games I can sink my teeth into are games that were made years ago.

Anyway, OPINIONS.
Do you guys remember chaos;head? That's probably why the Angry Birds are popular.

Lol people still think this game is original and creative. Everyone knows it's a ripoff of Crush The Castle.

As for the topic, people are idiots.(i.e casuals)
Amazing how far it's gone.
I personally got bored of the game after about 5 minutes, but I can see it suiting casuals:
- anyone can figure it out in 15 seconds
- controls are 'natural' for the touchscreen
- doesn't require a high level of skill to play, or get through
- colourful, cute animations
- games are quick
- social media tie in??
- you probably can't really get 'stuck' at any point (unlike some RPGs, where I'm sure some of you have wondered how to get to the next bit)

Whilst every game has its hardcore group of fans, I do struggle to see how anyone can get so involved as to want a movie or similar.  I can see it being used as a novel way to market certain things (like National Geographic) perhaps.

I also guess many of you subscribe to the more Japanese trait of stories in game play.  FPSes are probably so popular in the US because they're easy to grasp and get into.  Whilst they often have stories, I see many people skipping them.  The rise of stronger WRPGs like The Elder Scrolls, and probably MMOs might be changing things a little though.
But anyway, Angry Birds follows the popular simplistic principle.  And I would think that Angry Birds with some attached storyline would be nowhere near as successful (though probably still quite successful to be associated with AB in the first place).

i never said it was original, or creative. it just does what it wants to do.

I sit in a room full of 'em for 7 hours a day

on weekdays. I walk between millions of them for three hours a week as well
well my point of view is that when something becomes too popular (as in being played by bored housewives popular) then the market has to shift accordingly (so as not to offend people).. this means that games are being watered down to appeal to a wider audience because whilst money is a contributing factor, i sure wouldn't want my game being criticized by people who think their opinion is more important than everyone else'... anything different on the market these days will be immediately slammed by gaming simpletons as being a boring game and that paints a bad picture for the company... angry birds has suffered from the fact that the aforementioned people will buy anything that's put in front of them and they won't say anything bad about it because angry birds, for example, is the only game that most of them seem to understand...  this phase will die down before long don't worry about it...
