Hope the description wasn't misleading. I have no problems with it - now.
But I did, and all around the net, I have seen many others have the same. Let me start at the beginning...
Back in the day, when I was sorting out my PSX backups, I did not have my Rayman disc in the house, I couldn't find it. Turns out, I'd lent it to a friend a few years earlier, and he was hundreds of miles away. So, I set to download it.
Now, I came across many formats of the dumped disc -
MDF , MDS
CCD, IMG, CUE
BIN, millions of APE files (LOL)
BIN, CUE (by far the best format for PSX dumps IMO)
I'm obviously talking about converting these to EBOOT by the way for PSP.
Interestingly, none of the files I downloaded seemed to work properly. The first (and most common across the net) issue that I encountered was the classic getting stuck at the 'UBISOFT' screen. I quickly found out that this was a combination of bad dumps, compression ratios, and which pops to use.
So I got past that.
Then, I found that the sound would never work properly - there would be either no music whatsoever (regardless of whether I selected the cue file to convert from), or I would get only half the music, ie, it would cut off abruptly after 15 seconds or so.
Trial and error went on for some time, and in the end I got majorly pissed with it and decided to buy it off PSN store. (Interestingly, the US and EU versions differ with the framerate, and I found that the EU version was a pain in the arse to play).
Now, by this point I started to get into the whole EBOOT customising aspect (the PIC1, SND0, etc). Annoyingly, I couldn't customise the PSN version, due to that annoying DAT file. So, with me wanting consistency, I found myself back at square 1. How annoying.
I had assumed that with there been at least 4 or 5 dumps available on the net, that somebody would have got it right. That's not the case, as I had met up with my friend at this point and got my disc, dumped it, customised the EBOOT, and everything worked absolutely fine.
Now, I realise this post is a little long-winded, but I like detail. The point of this thread is to see if others have had problems, and I'm curious as to why there are no decent dumps on the net.
Thoughts?
