^everything youll need from rooting to custom ROMs and tips/tweaks

blapkmarket
^for all your app needs

congrats on the new phone.
Let me know when you download "words with friends" so I can get crushed by your huge brain :D
Opera looks nice but doesn't seem to have that many options either :/  Looks like there's no ad block (have to rely on a hosts file block?).  Seems like no browser supports changing proxies either >_>
Dolphin HD doesn't look like a bad browser, though there doesn't seem to be many addons for it.

RockPlayer also doesn't seem to hide the soft buttons unfortunately, guess I'll have to wait for an ICS update.
Did find DicePlayer does everything well, but I wish that pausing could be made easier.

SuperUser seems to only be a 'su' frontend (like UAC), not exactly what I wanted, but I did find Permissions Denied, which seems to be what I want.  Also using DroidWall, though it doesn't pop up with a prompt when an app tries to get network access.

GO Launcher EX seems to have a running apps list, which makes closing apps a bit easier.  Will need to see if there's a widget for it.
Speaking of which, I can't seem to notice too much of a difference with GO Launcher compared to the stock launcher.  Maybe it's because there's some not so obvious gestures or hidden features?

Tried the Android Revolution HD ROM, which seems to include a whole bunch of apps I won't use (like social networking stuffs), so switched to the Android Open Kang ROM, which seems to add a few more options.  I guess these ROMs are mostly unlocking stuffs and some slight tweaks - had expected more of a difference.

Thanks for the tips C21H30O2

Phone seems to be comfortable in the pocket, though too heavy to not move about when running.  I kinda like running around places and looking like a weirdo, so I'll probably need some hard pouch or similar so I can dump it in the bag.
You get about 13GB of usable space.  Had worried about that with no expandable memory, but at the moment, looks like plenty.  Apps are typically only a few MB (dunno how big installed), music can be compressed to HE-AAC (~2-3MB per song), and 720p video, whilst takes up more than on the PSP, isn't too bad either (I'm getting under 200MB for most anime episodes).  Haven't tried video recording yet, so IDK how much space that uses.
I have a suspicion that the amount of space the OS uses can be reduced more, I mean, surely you don't need that many ringtones on there...
you should try [NIGHTLY][ROM][GSM] CyanogenMod 9 kang
I don't know how stable it is yet but this one will most likely be the best custom ROM for the phone.

Also check out Advanced Task Manager. You can use that to turn off any running apps to save your battery. Not sure if the ICS has a stock option for that.
I might stay away from nightlies at the moment, since this is all new to me, and wait for a beta at least.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
Try a root uninstaller for apps this way you can remove any locked down system apps that can slow your phone down. When I tried it I was able to free out 90mb from my phones memory speed. Be careful though one day I was killing system apps like crazy then this happened. >> http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showthr...?tid=26809

You should also get an app called AdFree it kills adds in free apps and web sites. Less loading means more data for your phone.
So you couldn't just install a custom dialer, like this? https://sites.google.com/a/mgeek.mobi/smart-dialer/

I'll take a look at Root Uninstaller.
I've got AdFree - I believe it just adds entries to the /etc/hosts file to block ad domains.

Hm, I wonder if it's possible to hook up standard wireless keyboards/mice to this.  Also wether all MHL » HDMI connectors allow power to go through (and maybe even USB-OTG ports).
If so, you could effectively use the phone like a full computer lol.

Also interested in how this compares to a desktop/Atom CPU in terms of performance.
I would use Titanium Backup to remove any bloatware. But custom roms usually have all that stuff already removed.

I noticed this too. The solution I got to was ProxyDroid, which allows you to set up a button for your home screen to switch it on and off - and ConnectBot to set up a SSH tunnel.
Seems like Blapkmarket is more aimed at pirating paid apps.  So yeah, I guess people don't want .apks of free apps.  Sucks.

Googling for it doesn't seem to always turn up the newest versions (or even remotely new).  Don't have Wifi.  I wonder if it's possible to do some sort of reverse tethering - activate USB tethering, then somehow set up a gateway on the computer which the phone connects through (or set up a HTTP proxy and use Senseito's suggestion above).
Alternatively, if I can set up a Wifi AP on my netbook, I could try through that.

Then I'd have to copy the .apks from /data/apps over to the sdcard, then copy that back to the computer.  So damn convoluted.  All of which could be saved if they let you download the damn .apk files from the Android market.

*sigh* I guess I should get used to computers moving towards treating everyone like dumb f*cks and not letting you do things the way you want to.
