The other day my friend and I, (I actually have some friends), were talking about the internet and the illusion of privacy it gives. you can just use any username you want, and never actually reveal your real name, or real birthday, or real info about you. however, after many years online, how much have you revealed about yourself?
and worst of all, could your typical username be somehow connected to your real name? (for example, if you ever gave a link to your facebook while using your username, or placingit in your sig of some forum\community)
when wee searched is username, even a picture of him appeared.
here is what I discovered about myself when I googled my username:
- age \ birthdate
- some favourite bands and songs
- country and city where I live
- gender
accounts: tribos, gamespot, myanimelist, blogger, pspiso,
league of legends (I even found a replay file of a battle where I played like a noob and my team lost because of me),
stumbleupon (and in it tons of info about my interests),
kimtag (don't even know what it is),
pspnews (there was a comment where I stated that I had performed an illegal action O.O couldn't erase it T.T),
absolutewrite forum and stuff about the book I'm writing
hi5
at least it says the account was erased and shows no pictures
and of course EP
what about you? what do you do to protect you identity? what's your opinion?
perhaps having two usernames, one for the things you don't want people to know about and another for everything else, could be a solution, but you have to be extremely careful not to connect both somehow.
