What happens in Skyrim, stays in Skyrim.

Morrowind did it best, with a very blunt "You broke the world. Reload your game to fix your spoon" message.
I disagree completely.
I think it's great that you can completely ruin everything, and continue playing as though nothing had happened. I'm glad that they don't cater to the idiots, and dumb stuff down like that. If you kill some essential character, then it's your own damn fault.
I agree.

This^ I am always making new save files in case something like this happens.
And... I think I am the only one here playing skyrim on the PS3. Skyrim on the PS3 has more bugs then you can find outside.

In Oblivion, you can't actually kill quest characters (you probably could some minor quest characters maybe, but nothing vital to the main or major quests).
I suppose that changed in Skyrim?

no you still can't kill those. If you try, they'll fall on their feet when their health is weak and become untargetable.
but you can kill those who give you secondary quests. So if you want to do ALL quests, like I want, you have to be very wary when there are dragon attacks and stuff like that.

But you have to talk to the blacksmith, so you can proceed to your main quest.
So you can kill him, and he won't fall on his feet.

Can't you just go directly to Whiterun instead?

i can do that, but i really can't connect with a game not knowing it's story.
If i skip the talking with alvor (the dead blacksmith) then i don't know why i came to whiterun and i don't know what alvor said to me to go to that place.
but then again, i don't want to restart my game, so i just go directly to whiterun.

Lol.
Also, 3 hours of work isn't much when it come to Skyrim. You can still continue the main quest without the blacksmith. Just go to Bleakfalls and get the dragon stone.
