Hey there, my laptop speaker doesn't work for some reason, the indicator on the lower left work just fine, saying the sound is there and all, but can't hear a thing. headphones doesn't work as well.

the symtom is too generic to google, anyone have any idea? i tried reinstalling drivers and such. no luck.

anyone know about this?

edit: it works if i use the HDMI
well your hdmi cble seems to be connected all the time.
When im using the HDMI it also mutes the pc and the sound goes only through the cable.
Its something to do with it!
nah, i used the contr ol panel to set the default device to the laptop's speaker and it doesn't work
i just bought it actually. just plugged in the HDMI for testing, that's all.
Well ok im telling you just what is happening to me , many time i connect the cable , the PC is muted completely.
Then i disconect it and if im still using the browser , if i try to see any youtube video its no sound at all, untill i restart the browser.
Well you say you just bought the cable so i think my reply is useless then!.
i just bought the laptop itself, second hand, but the guy said he just bought it around august, and well it does seem pretty new.
ok , you tried event viewer on the system page ?
It tells you some conflict , you red the the laptop features , accidently muting ? ???
I know you are not so dumb , but eventually.
Tried sooo many stuffs already >_> i think it's a hardware problem.
Well hardware problem , then why and how the HDMI sounds working ...
i mean they are not the same? audio output also provides the HDMI sound output.

Edit : ok just invented something ... try any linux live dvd on your system and see if that works and if not , check that is suported
if yes then you have your answer.
try going to the volume icon on the taskbar, right click it and go to "Playback Devices"
If the speakers aren't the default (noted by a green circle with a tick in it) change the default device from the HDMI to the speakers.
If the speakers are already the default I am at a loss, and i could only recommend system restore.
From my understanding, HDMI is usually supplied by the GPU, and usually is a separate device to the sound device.  So try what PB said above.
