I don't think this will help , i had my Umd drive broken too , and in maxconsole i saw guys saying the fix is ;
Open the psp and locate the drive connector to the psp board and reconnect it . Uh i never reached that place cause i don't know ,and never tried to open the back cover of the psp .

But i got my drive working again by itself after 4 months of non functionality , or maybe because i dropped my psp caused by my dog .   O_O
i don't know but won't it need the prx's to like runa command to make it read the (by the way i don't know about the progamming side of the psp but still :D)
Maybe,what if the lazer that reads the disc was broken though? :?

yeh maybe i duna but maybe someone could delete it off  there psp and see what it dus
wouldnt that be more of a hardware related problem rather then a software related problem?
because technically if it is a software related issue then a reflash of the firmware would fixe the problem as a reflash would format the flash and rewrite all the files so i think its a hardware issue not a software one.

Yeah i never thought about that , but if they delete it from the folder then it would be a semibrick , but like Dedat said if it as a Software prob ,then reinstalling the firmware should fix it up . I tried to do so , but nothing happens
*moved this is more of a question then a find

UMDs not reading is a mechanical problem.

Software can't fix everything.
but my drive has software related problems with flash
the drive works normally
when I access flash0 via recovery, then boot xmb the drive sounds weird and cannot read the disk or psp freezes but in the moment I take out the umd the psp unfreezes, but when I put it back it freezes again.
The fix for me is leaving the psp without a disk a lot of time, then it reads it again, but as soon as I enable flash the drive sounds weird.
