Quote:Similar to other mobile devices, Sony will be placing size limits on PlayStation Vita downloads through a 3G connection. In an interview at ASCII, a Sony Computer Entertainment representative said that 3G downloads will be limited to 20 megabyte file sizes initially. The representative added that this value could change in the future.

The ASCII interview covered a number of other topics related to the system's wireless support.

The Sony rep assured that, download size limits aside, both Wi-Fi and 3G users will be able to access the PlayStation Store to make purchases.

In response to a question about 3G's 128Kbps download and 64kbps upload speeds possibly being too slow for some games, for example fighting games, the rep said that Sony is providing software makers with support to ensure that titles that don't give the feeling of technical limitations are developed.

In Japan, Sony has partnered with NTT DoCoMo for 3G service. DoCoMo will sell pre-paid cards costing ¥980 for 20 hours and ¥4,980 for 100 hours of 128Kbps/64Kbps transfer. The 100 hour card includes a bonus three hours of high speed 14 Mbps download and 5.7 Mbps upload.

Limiting by file size?
So what about streams?

Or is this a limit on the size of packages from the store?  If speed is capped to 128Kbps download, I could understand why.
i don't remember some mobile device that do limit download size (most android device ive used can download more than 50mb)

anyways carriers do some bandwidth cap in our country but yeah i think it still pertains because of piracy
If it's a per file limit, it would have to be implemented in software, meaning that a hack would get around it anyway.  I presume piracy only works if the device is hacked, so if that's the case, it seems weird.
I am baffled as to how there could possibly be 3g networks in a place where 4g has been for ages before any company over here in the west even got 3g. : |

I swear when I was little
TV "oh yay wee got 3g phones selling now, come and buy one"
Internet "japan's had 4g for awhile  : |"
