Roommates can be an integral part of your university/college life, try to talk to the dude to see if it's possible to get along.
My roommate was more of a bro than a roommate, he drove me around when I needed groceries or just wanted to eat, was quiet even when I made noise, offered me food, helped me with moving and leaving, he even PAID MY BILLS WITHOUT TELLING ME (something that made me have to go after him out of guilt to make sure I paid, I think it's probably because he saw me as a youth/younger brother), etc. Yeah, you can already tell this was a pretty damn nice guy, I was sure to make it up to him by leaving him with a lot of stuff as well and I talk to him regularly from now and then.
Not gloating, I doubt your roommate will be like this, but it doesn't hurt to strike up a convo now and then.
