Considering that DNS was invented because IP addresses are hard to remember, should there be some system to get around the can-be-hard-to-remember phone number system?

Although many phoning applications have address books (just like internet browsers have favourites) do you think the increase of internet based telephony will drive a trend like this?
yes and no

what they should do is reuse all the old inactive mobile numbers

They do that here in the states, for a longgg time.
Some companies already use words to make their number easy to remember

MY friends phone number use to be like 866-SEAN (his name)

I think direct tv is like 1-800-DIRECTTV

I always wonder what's going to happen when wee finally run out of phone numbers n stuff XD
well seeing as phone numbers have certain conventions there are a lot of unused numbers.
