I like it how it allows some random basement guy to make pop music without having to find a singer, despite that, personally, the singing abilities of vocaloids leave a lot to be desired.
Though I find that it means they focus more on the music rather than singing (so you don't really get stuff like rap, which I personally don't consider to be music), which is a plus in my book.
I think I would compare a lot of vocaloids singing to any decent pop artist behind a synthesizer/auto-tune
