Try XviD4PSP or AVItoPMP.
As for the video, how did you put the lyrics in? It's okay I guess, considering that there isn't really a video, but I suggest at least putting a few clips behind, so that the viewer isn't just seeing text. If you don't have any clips, a simple visualisation works okay (see my video below).

Quality has been reduced a lot cause I have a crappy upload. And I've used crazy compression techniques, so I hope you can play back the video (x264 + HE-AAC). VLC will work fine.
Oh, another thing is that it was made for school, just to make a song look a bit better, so I didn't bother making it that good (eg some of the subs are timed correctly, and the effects are partly stuffed, subs don't go with syllables etc etc)
woah, that was sweet, thanks for the tips. i used plain old windows movie maker when i made that video, i just make the lyrics into pictures and timed them with the song. I'll try out XviD4PSP and AVItoPMP also.
