if you were dual booting, as long as your primary OS partition wasn't mounted, chrome OS wouldnt be able to hurt anything else on your computer. also, i lold hardcore when i read that. the kernel is the base of any linux system, it contains the drivers and basic input/output for the entire OS.
It's basically a cloud OS like JoliOS (Ubuntu variant). The desktop is actually a web browser pointing to the cloud page for your account. It still has a backend though for the base OS (Gentoo).
Well, one step closer to having everything on the cloud.  If Google pulls this off successfully, they'll know even more about everyone, and also a stab at MS's dominance.
Gamers will either become more casual with Flash games, or traditional machines with "normal" OSes will become more of a niche product.
