Test results from school examinations are usually treated as fairly confidential here, and from how I take it, same in the US and probably other western nations.
From my understanding, it's to try to foster enthusiasm, and maybe discourage nerd bullying.
But on the other hand, it may encourage lack of interest in academic studies. Publishing results may have the effect of competitiveness and perhaps encourage learning.
What do you think? Should test results be made public, and perhaps ranked, or should they be kept confidential?
Would publicising test results encourage academia in schools, or would it discourage it?
Am interested to hear from people that do well in tests and those who often don't do so well.
they make test results well known in japan mong students at least, it seems to encourage studying. like they have those "class leaderboards"
make em public
make this a poll bro! or sis! ?!?
What school level?
Over here, test results are usually known only to the person for lower level school (lets say, year 1-9), but later years, and university, I'm pretty sure they're all publicly available based on student ID (well, "publicly available" = anyone in the course can obtain an ordered list of results, not truly publicly available to everyone on the planet).
Hmm... If my test results in school were public, I don't think it would have encouraged me to study. I think my grades would've still remained the same, which was average. A couple of "A's" mostly "B's" and the occasional "C" (The C was in Algebra...)
I think they should stay confidential IMO
I don't really care either way.

Algebra? It's not called math?
My grades were terrible, got a bunch of C's and a few B's; woop. :P
On topic, I think nerd bullying would be a big problem because some people would be immature and single out ones who need help, with the ones seeing how they are on the bottom just give up when they find out they're the worst of the worst. Discouraging people is the worst thing with education and it's sad really.

I was only referring to Algebra. Everything else in Math, I made B's. Also, I'm only going by my first year in High School. Wee only had Algebra that semester.
I later quit school that year for reasons I don't feel like discussing. Also, I don't want this thread to go off topic because of me so... yeah...
I say make them public! :D

Well I think the first reason is enough.
Also, sorry for the minor derail zinga. :P
