I'm so annoyed at these harem shows and the lack of any satisfactory solution to the problems (often where a protagonist has to choose one partner out of a selection). From the large number of harem themed animes, this is clearly a large issue in Japan - one in which the government should really respond to.
All solution shown in these animes are clearly not optimal, and shows that laws and societal values are simply not up to scratch to cope with present issues, which limit the abilities of society to develop, thrive and innovate.
I propose legalising polygamy, as well as other complicated and unusual/bizzare legal relationships. This frees citizens from the shackles of a 'one partner only' relationship that they've been restricted to for thousands of years. People will be able to decide how they'll live their lives without being constrained by absurd laws.
And legalising "different" relationships isn't just about letting people live the way they want to, it can also help:
- boost a declining birth rate (and if those Japanese scientists have figured out ways of reproducing in homosexual relationships, encourage it!)
- reduce "cheating"
- increase collaboration amongst larger groups of people (wee already know the benefits of working with others)
As wee've already heard, there have been people who've married video game characters (stupid Love Plus), and soon people will be marrying Chobits. And as many of these people who say "what's wrong with marrying someone or thing I love?"
Now I know that there may be some hippies out there who spout poo poo like "it's just wrong" or similar, but as any competent communicator is aware, these arguments have very little support and should generally be discarded as nothing more than fallacious. Those who claim it's against their morals should atune their morals to the 21st century (but whatever the case, laws do not have to reflect morals, and should not in this instance). And those who claim that it's against God to do so should understand that the church is no longer in control of society and our laws should not necessarily reflect ideals developed by the church.
I'd like to ask these people - what is so wrong about relationships other than the stereotypical married straight couple? Is it financially damaging to anyone? Does it take away something from anyone? Does it ruin the lives of anyone? Does it even cause any harm to anyone? It does, however, improve the lives of those involved in the relationship, as the participants have clearly determined that to be the case.
New ideas and innovation is what drives us humans forward and those who are against such a harmless solution to a real problem are simply trying to hold society back. Almost any change can be criticised in some way or another, but wee need to change if wee are to see improvement.
And whilst this is only directed at Japan, since the animes clearly show scriptwriters' thoughts on the issue, I propose that this be extended into western societies as well, for the same reasons as those mentioned beforehand.

BTW, for those who haven't realised, this is a joke thread
