If u really need the portability, u have no choice but to get a laptop.

If u want to upgrade and stuff, like u said about the memory and HDD, laptops are quite hard to upgrade + limited upgrade options. If u want to upgrade, desktops are a better option.

Also, about going to uni a few years later, by that time, if it's like a lot of years, u will have to get a new laptop anyways.

Desktops are a lot cheaper though. U can get usually something the same power of a laptop at half the price. I got my desktop for AU$425. Custom built budget machine.

amtzer u live in Australia right? If u want to buy desktop/computer parts/peripherals, MSY is a really good shop for computer stuff, it sells stuff quite a bit cheaper than it's competitors. U get crazy prices like 7600GT for $134 Aus dollars, 1gb DDR2 memory for $46.

lol, the sempron 3000+ is selling for only $37 in the shop (i bought sempron 2800+ for about $200 like 2 yrs back). The Logitech MX revolution mouse, which i see selling for AU$175 in another shop is selling for $106 there, for those who are interested in good mouse (i personally don't give a poo poo what mouse i have. a $3 stock is good enough for me, although I'm currently using a Razer Diamondback, but that's a gift from a friend).

Use something like Trillian. It supports all of them. AIM, MSN, Yahoo, whatever. +MSN messenger is really gay. Shows stupid ads. I hate it.

I personally don't really chat at all.
nukka Wrote:Intel is really 64bit... ive run vista 64bit on this laptop, which has a INTEL core 2 duo...

and building a desktop is the way to go, you know exactly what you have, and you can do alot more stuff to/with the hardware.

and alienware is owned by del... just a little For your information

and if you don't have aim i can be found on IRC idling in #friendlyfiregaming on the gamesurge network

Intel is not 64bit!! it can work as 64bit but the cpu is not.. :na:

If had to choose between dell and alienware >>> AlienWare really, Dell sucks..

And IRC sucks too..

Hahaha

NOTE: these are mearly my opinion's except for the fact that intel is not 64 bit..
no... intel really IS 64bit

granted they adopted AMD's architecture, but intel chips are true 64bit procs

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64

Quote:During much of its history, AMD has developed and produced processors patterned after Intel's original designs, but in a twist of computing history, Intel found itself in the position of adopting AMD's x86-64 architecture, which AMD had created as an extension to Intel's own x86 processor line. As AMD later renamed its architecture to AMD64, Intel in turn has renamed their implementation Intel 64. It is used in newer versions of Pentium 4, Pentium D, Pentium Extreme Edition, Celeron D, Xeon, and Core 2 processors.

Funny thing is when asked AMD in a E'mail i got a detailed email back explaining that a intel cpu not really a 64bit cpu is.. well i must say that's like a year ago and thus the story above tells me that intel indeed adopted the 64bit idee from amd..
Thanks for the heads up!!
i never said they invented or came up with it. its been around for awhile, all prescots from rev E0 have had it, it jsut wasn't enabled until revF i think, and none of the Core series have it. but ALL core 2's have it.

and as up now Intel is pwning amd in the proc department
notebooks for poratbility
desktops for upgradability
from stock i can upgrade every component of my laptop....
i think i will probably be getting the Dell Dimension C521 which is the one that dedat recommended, because assassinator is right, in a few years time for uni, i will probably just get a laptop then, so i'l have a desktop for now because i want the better features for a better price :D

and i don't really know much about building computers eventhough I'm doing a course on it next semester at school, so i think I'll just stick to the manufacturer (dell) building it for me so that if something goes wrong (which it won't) then i have dell to blame, not me lol :D

personally i would go for a desktop purely because you can get more features or better features for say $2000 then you would for a laptop for $2000.

right, look at this:
AMD
