It seems Sony want to make everyone happy with their latest portable system in production. Whilst the specs will be putting a high price tag on the system, Sony seem to have the right idea by actually giving the system a more affordable price, whilst this will be selling at a loss, Sony is hoping that this tactic will bring good profits in the long run.
Quote:The Next Generation Portable will be "affordable", Sony has promised.

"I can't put a ballpark on it in terms of figures, but what I would say is that wee will shoot for an affordable price that's appropriate for the handheld gaming space," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House told Eurogamer in Tokyo this morning.

The NGP – Sony's successor to the PSP – was officially unveiled this morning as a powerful portable gaming console.

Eurogamer has been told by a source that Sony will "make a loss" on the NGP, but House insisted the hardware manufacturer is gunning for profitability.

"Ideally wee would want to have our hardware be profitable, in addition to our software," he said. "Wee've experienced both sides and wee know which one wee like to be on!"

I'll probably still need to get another job though :/ Emptyone

Looks like I might not ignore it. Due to lack of money.
Isn't this all a bit... odd?

Bar form factor, dual analog sticks, beastly specifications... and Sony making it afforable (by their definition at least)?

Sounds like they've listened to what the consumer wants and is actually giving it to us.
That's good to hear
People only have such a low opinion of Sony because they want to stop hacking.

Now whhyyyyy would they want to do that >_>

If i were Sony I'd get pissed off at all the poo poo people throw at me.

Want homebrew get a GP2X

Will get this

can't wait :3
Wee'll see what's the meaning of "affordable" to them when this NGP comes out! Madwin
But I hope that consumers and Sony have the same vocabulary with the word "affordable".

by the way the reason why I posted a comment like this is that I've seen a post from another site the this one has "Built-in GPS" that's why I'm wondering what does "affordable" means to them.
Actually I don't care if the NGP is hackable, I'm still getting it. Hopefully it is affordable as they claim

Considering that I mainly wanted a PSP for homebrew I originally considered getting one before I bought my PSP.
It needs to be the same price as the 3DS or lower to even compete for affordability. Also you have to remember game prices too. 60$ per new release is way too damn expensive. If you compair DS games to PSP games the DS is cheaper and lower graphics but they have some really good games, PSP not so much games and way too high in price for a handheld.

To Sony if you read fourms, get good devs pay them well and make good games for good recission prices. (aka 20$ - 40$)

Keep in mind that they are making the hardware affordable - as they are relying on software to make their profit.

I shouldn't expect it to be any cheaper than PSP launch titles.
