i need a bit of help trying to make my internet more... what's the word I'm looking for... conventional...?

right now i have a computer set up in the other room just for internet sharing, and im trying to figure out a way to lesson the amount of electricity im using.

the neighbor down the road allows me to use his internet so i connect to his secure wifi connection via usb wifi card. this is then shared to an Ethernet connection on the computer to my net-gear box in the basement into the "internet in" then my box in the basement sends it out again as my own protected wifi.

as you can see this is a networking nightmare...
but it works.

all other wifi are built into computer, only one wifi card is usb and it it mounted on the tower outside to a satellite dish pointed to the neighbors house.

any... suggestions for reducing my power consumption?

also, no i cannot purchase my own internet.
and yes, im the moron that set this up.
How about using a Wireless Access extender instead of a Computer to piggyback his network??

my netgear has a repeater function but the last time i tried to configure it i bricked the box.

i was also thinking of instead of having the worthless computer sitting there i might put windows server 2008 on it. but im hesitant, im unsure whether i can share it like i do now in xp. plus its a 512 mgh processor with 265 ram i doubt it could run it.
It really wouldnt, and, even assuming it would, it wouldnt run any of the functions you would want out of it, so it wouldnt be worth the effort to try
can you please not use a block capital font ;_;

fine for you user name but it's rape on my eyes in text

roberth's idea makes sense, ive no idea how you bricked the box before.
linksys wrt54g using custom firmware setup as a repeater...problem solved.
