hi guys i got a hold of a secondhand ps3 slim couple of days ago,but it has the "cannot start from the correct hard disk" problem already tried a hard reset and the HDD cannot be detected when i plug it to the pc.

before i buy a new HDD im just wondering if the console is bricked also even-though its looking for a HDD?
well if it was bricked it would turn on, flash a yrllow led and shut off, so chances are that it is not bricked (shouldnt wee be saying cinderblocked? XD) however, just to be safe, when you install the new hdd be sure to either update or boot to recovery menu and rebuild the database, whichever you prefer.

PS3 hard drives can never be read from PC (Plug-and-Play wise) anyway unless you have some serious tools and patience.

try this:

he invokes the ps3's recovery menu, but do what this guy says, not rebuild database
thanks to those who respond,i just want to make sure if the console is fine cause i have a gut feeling that the culprit is the HDD. off to the store then and ill try to salvage the old HDD with some tools i can find to format and use it on desktops or whatever.

thank again.just in time for the rumored hack on all FW.

not rumoured

real

if you do what was suggested in the video you font lose any data or anything im pretty sure. Don't waste your time and money just do it. Also if you try to put your hard drive in a new PS3 it won't work anyway, it will ask to format it for the new PS3. If you put another blank hard drive into the PS3 your old one won't be recognised and all your data is useless.
