Not really interested in what you prefer, rather, if wee look at some historical things, typically there's a battle for compatibility.  Whether it's HD-DVD vs Blu-ray, or Windows vs Linux (about 10 years ago), someone had to come out as the dominant player to allow for stable development on the platform.

So do you think either of these mobile platforms will eventually "win" and dominate the market?  If so, which do you think will dominate the market?
If one does, it'll probably become the new "Windows" for phones, having everything developed for it.
Windows Phone is implenting homebrew compatibility after the unlock program came out. Don't know how it's going to play out but it's simple design is liked by a lot of people who use smartphones for business/social and all those purposes.
Can't say much about android except it's eyecandy...oh and the kids love it, teen market.
Symbian has developed very well but still behind any market.
Windows mobile is dead period, I still use it and customize it to no end but there is no support yet MS still releases phones installed with WinMO.
iOS has taken over the world. Sleek black look rules all and high quality apps. Yet so many restrictions and bad hardware.

Don't know to be honest they are all having trouble getting to the zephyr, 07-10 iPhone ruled all.

Now it could be Windows Phone+Manila 3?? Since HTC is releasing HD7 the market might have a whole lot of interest in WP7.

Let's look to see if nokia phone is able to septuple boot all these in the near future.
Well, as much as I hate to admit it, I reckon the iphone os will retain a significant  portion of the market share, care of it's one and only application in the apple iphone/ipod devices. It will never take the whole market, though, thanks to apple's position on letting not-apple hardware have apple software. Behind that will be symbian and/or android.
I personally think Android might have a bit of an edge here.  Looking at figures, I believe there's more Android sales than iOS: http://blogote.com/2010/android/android-...hones.html

The biggest problem about the iPhone is that Apple are targeting the premium market, and there are many people who simply aren't willing to pay so much for a phone.  This is a place where the potential for a much cheaper devices comes in, eg Android, Symbian etc.  Apple do have the iTouch in the lower end, but no real cheap phone.  If they did manage to penetrate the lower end market, I'd probably say iOS without much of a doubt.

Dunno if another one is out but the original unlocker has already been shut down. Hihi

As for the actual question, iOS's look is starting to feel old and without jailbreaking it, you're stuck with it. Thanks to the way Android works it's been evolving rapidly and adapting to new hardware fast, with it being used as the 1st-choice tablet OS and the next version, 2.3 - Gingerbread adapting further to support the Tablet format and bringing new features to all.

Unless Apple have a few tricks up their sleeves they are going to fall behind the speed of Android.
I think android will, its widely adopted, its selling well on its phones, and as Sensei said its constantly evolving and being adapted to new devices
Based on my current level of information, I would say Android. WP7 is waay too young to make any prognosis yet and the iOS is too limited for a long term run. I mean people nowadays like personalization and what do you get since iOS 4? A mere wallpaper... Android however can be modded inside out since Froyo mostly even without root access as far as I know. And not only that, Android is basically on a mass load of devices while for the iOS I'm limited to basically one fixed device with no options. (knowing Apple, iOS 5 on the 3GS will surely lack features...)
