I'm not agreeing with what apple does to their phones OS, but a lot of users i know just want the phone to work, they don't care if it's "open", if the user wanted an open phone they will have either jailbroken it or bought an android.#
i could hardly see my mum as the person who would start theming her iphone.....seen as she doesn't know how to sync music to it most of the time XD
1)yes it is, try putting an i 4 in your left hand, it goes from four bars to none, ANY other att phone would get fantastic service
2)i said there arent enough FREE apps as only about %30ish are, whilst android %60ish
3)android phones are open, yet they still have enough restrictions to keep the phone safe. hombrew doesn't mean flashing themes and all that stuff it means that anyone who knows enough code, can make an app for the phone and have it put on the market without special permissions, i even saw a bunch root only apps in the market, but they don't do anyhing because the phone won't allow it

I'd probably disagree with you there. Whilst there will almost always be exceptions and people who need to use special "tools" (OSes), PCs are synonymous to Windows (so much so that Apple uses this in their campaigns despite Macs technically being PCs). Windows has like a ~94% market share or similar, which I think is probably as close to total domination as anyone's going to get. They've lost ground to Linux (which is still a very small minority on the desktop at around ~1%) and MacOS (~5%) in recent years, but Windows nonetheless still dominates the market. Whether they are able to maintain this into the future is something else though.
And I don't think being open is much of a selling point to the majority of users. Just take a look at Windows vs Linux.

Android can run on REALLY cheap phones and some are even FREE with subscription!
If you want cheap you can get an android that can suit your $ probs
