Well after moving to a new place, I once again have internet... Sort of.
The crappy thing about it, is apparently they do not offer high speed internet up here
So I am stuck with Localnet dial up.
I paid for the 3.0 accelerator (compresses images, ect before sending), but it is slow as hell. I'm not used to surfing the net at snail like speeds.
I guess it is good enough to browse around with. But forget downloading anything.
Plus, now using the internet ties up my phone line.
AND - no online console gaming ! ugghhhh...
I guess I shouldn't complain. It beats having no internet.
But I am open to suggestions. (a faster provider, firefox tweaks for faster browsing, anything..)
At any rate, I'm back. Hope I didn't miss too much while I was gone.

Should I use less smilies? Also try using Opera for slow internet. Worked very well for me when I had slow internet.

Don't worry about the smilies. They are pretty small.

Wha??? Sounds like a poo poo scheme to me.
Opera Turbo is free and does something similar.
Disable images like me. It may seem weird at first, but I'm seriously used to it. Some webpages won't work properly, so you'll have to either enable images, or dig through them with something like Firebug (if you don't mind the effort).
Other things I do:
- disable the phishing warnings in Firefox or whatever browser you're using - this stops them polling some server for updated lists
- install Flashblock and Adblock Plus, but disable auto-updates for the subscription in ABP
- Flashblock doesn't actually stop Flash from being downloaded - you can disable the Flash and Java plugins for that
- you can use something like BlockSite and block stupid scripts like Google Analytics which only make your browsing slower; or you can just null route the domain
- disable all auto-updaters on all your programs (IMO, they're annoying anyway)
- install a firewall and block all non-internet essential applications from connecting to the net
My connection has slowed to dialup speeds on many occasions, but with these, browsing is quite bearable.
