I like the alternate version better, don't really like the white brush effect thing you did.

actually its transparency in the image. on a dark background, it looks pretty good.

well the point is to have it blend with whatever the user is viewing. with a dark background behind it, it just looks like a 500x200 rectangle
i don't like that in a sig. i like using transparency to make the images look good on the background.

It's nice, when it works... but you already said "on a dark background, it looks pretty good" assuming you mean "better than a bright background", so you should sacrifice sophistication for the better looking sig.
Regardless, alt is better.
