just because you have a gun doesn't mean they don't too
so you shoot first. because odds are, if guns are super restricted, the only way people are going to get them is illegally (just look at drugs) and whos more likely to get an illegal gun? an innocent homeowner, or a robber? better everyone have equal access. at least then theres a semi-equal playing field.
If a robber comes to you with a gun, I don't think you have much opportunity to try to get yours anyway.
Should a civilian have an automatic machine gun with a grenade launcher attached to the barrel? No. Should a civilian have a small handgun with a limited amount of ammunition? Yes.
