Quote:The suicide of a university student — after a recording of him having a sexual encounter with a man was broadcast online — has stirred outrage and remorse on campus from classmates.

"Had he been in bed with a woman, this would not have happened," said Rutgers University student Lauren Felton, 21. "He wouldn't have been outed via an online broadcast and his privacy would have been respected and he might still have his life."

A lawyer for Clementi's family confirmed Wednesday that he had jumped off the George Washington Bridge last week .
Middlesex County prosecutors say the pair used a webcam to surreptitiously transmit a live image of Clementi having sex on Sept. 19 and that Ravi tried to webcast a second encounter on Sept. 21, the day before Clementi's suicide.

Clementi's roommate, Dharun Ravi, and fellow Rutgers student Molly Wei, both 18, have been charged with invading Clementi's privacy.

Middlesex County prosecutors say the pair used a webcam to surreptitiously transmit a live image of Clementi having sex on Sept. 19 and that Ravi tried to webcast a second encounter on Sept. 21, the day before Clementi's suicide.

Ravi wrote Sept. 19 on what is believed to be his Twitter page, which has since been deleted, but is still accessible though Google's cache system: "Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay."

Two days later, Ravi apparently posted another entry referring to iChat, an internet messaging service with a live video feed.

"Anyone with iChat, I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes it's happening again," Ravi wrote in the Sept. 21 post.

[O]n Sept. 22 Clementi left a note on his Facebook page that read: "Jumping off the gw bridge sorry." On Wednesday, his Facebook page was accessible only to friends.

A lawyer for Ravi did not immediately return a message seeking comment. It was unclear whether Wei had retained a lawyer.

Have to wonder just how little self-esteem that roommate must have had, that he had to do something so extravagant, in hopes of appearing cool on the net (many try to impress on the internet, with no foreseeable reward, but this really IS extreme...). Even if it was just among his real life "friends", how the hell did he think it was going to conclude? His roommate just has a chuckle, and says "oh you..."?

What an donkey. I wouldn't be surprised if he felt absolutely no remorse over his actions.

Such immature bullshit...
tl:dr

But from what I read of it, my opinion is about the same as yours HG
That was a pocky move by the roommate

Was thinking about adding a tl;dr at top when I posted... but oh well. I edited it down, and provided source for rest of story
The word muddlesex makes me laugh....but other than that ...pretty chocolatety :(
That is so sad, I hope they get sexually harassed in jail.
Depends on your situation.  From what I can tell, gays are fairly "outlawed" here, at least around young adults.  So if you're gay, you'd probably want to keep it secret from your friends.
I don't think this is amongst the internet, but only amongst your IRL friends.
And most teens or people around that age only seem to ever care about "having a life" (which, from my understanding, is primarily based around friendship/relationships and sex life).

Regardless of the circumstances, what annoys me specifically is the lack of consideration, or perhaps he is just plain stupid. I don't know, he's a college student, so he can't blame it on adolescence. Sure, many things are culturally bound, some looked down upon, some "outlawed" as you say, but that isn't what annoys me. It's just the absolute, purely selfish asshole action that bugs me.
it happened in my school, it was like 2 buildings away from me.
