Heck, if wee consider the trend of possible development...  I mean, for example, it's customarily believed that there are two genders, although many these days may consider otherwise...  And then, customarily, relationships are typically between two people of opposite gender, but with some countries legalising same sex marriage, perhaps that's starting to break down.  If you take that into consideration, why does a relationship have to involve two people anyway?  Couldn't there be three? four?  All sorts of interesting complex relationships could arise, with the amount of open mindedness around these days...

in the beginning werent marriages purely political anyway...  Even then, your always going to have your favorite and people as selfish creatures are always going to want to be the favorite... multiple people in a marriage seems more like a consolation prize... but  I guess if there are three people and no two people have each other as a favorite you get some cruel love triangle compromise

Yep, censoring is bad...  REASON:  

Yeah, harems don't need marriages, but why do same sex couples want them?
